WipeMark vs Erase.bg: free full-size cut-outs compared

Erase.bg's pages disagree on whether signup is required, and give HD downloads only after 3 signup credits. WipeMark gives full-size cut-outs free, no account.

Checked against Erase.bg’s own pages on 10 October 2026. Prices and limits change; tell us if this is out of date.

The short answer

Pick WipeMark for a full-size cut-out with no account. Pick Erase.bg if you want its API, Figma or Photoshop plugins, or video background removal, and don't mind creating an account once your 3 free credits run out.

What each tool is

Erase.bg is a credit-based background remover from the Pixelbin family of tools, with a free tier that needs 3 signup credits; WipeMark is a free, no-account web tool for one photo at a time. Erase.bg's privacy policy states it is "managed and operated by Shopsense Retail Technologies Limited," the same company behind WatermarkRemover.io, Upscale.media and Shrink.media. Erase.bg offers a website tool, an API, and Figma, Photoshop and ChatGPT plugins.

WipeMark has no account layer. It does two jobs in the browser: background removal on the home page, and erasing unwanted things from your own photos at /erase-image.

The free tier in detail

Erase.bg's own pages disagree on whether an account is required, but agree that 3 signup credits are the way to get high-resolution downloads. Its pricing page FAQ says: "When you sign up, you'll receive 3 free credits to download 3 HD images," and adds, "Yes, you must sign up before using Erase.bg." Its homepage FAQ tells a different story: "Erase.bg is completely free for images processed on our website for personal use," with commercial use going through Pixelbin.io plans instead. The homepage also states maximum output of "10000 x 10000 px and 25 MB." We are reporting both statements rather than resolving the contradiction for you.

WipeMark's free download is the full-size cut-out, up to 25 megapixels, as PNG, JPG or WebP, with no signup, no credits and no account at any point.

Quality and edge cases

We have no documented, vendor-stated quality comparison between Erase.bg and WipeMark, so we make no claim either way. Erase.bg's output cap of 10,000 x 10,000 pixels is well above WipeMark's 25-megapixel limit, useful if you work with very large source files. For background on what WipeMark's own model does, see how AI background removal works.

Privacy and uploads

Erase.bg's privacy policy gives no deletion window for uploaded images, and its terms take a broad, perpetual license over content you upload; WipeMark sends only a reduced copy and stores nothing. Erase.bg's privacy policy lists "Images, Pictures, Photos" among the sensitive data it collects, and states: "we reserve all the rights to retain your information and any data for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes... Your images are anonymously stored with us." Its terms of use go further, stating that by uploading you grant "a royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive, sub-licensable and transferable license to use that Content including to reproduce, distribute, create derivative works... This license is perpetual." Whether uploads are used for AI training specifically is not stated; the policy only describes use "to develop, deliver, process and improve our Products."

WipeMark sends a reduced copy of your photo, at most 1024 pixels on the long side, to its server for the background step. The full-size cut-out is assembled in your browser, so the original file never leaves your device, and nothing is stored or logged. See our privacy page for details.

Where Erase.bg is better

Erase.bg is the stronger pick if you want plugins and an API around background removal. It has features WipeMark does not try to match:

  • Figma, Photoshop and ChatGPT plugins, per its plugins page.
  • An API with 3 free credits a day, separate from the website's one-time signup credits.
  • iOS and Android apps.
  • Video background removal and passport-photo and change-background tools.
  • A higher output cap, up to 10,000 x 10,000 pixels, against WipeMark's 25 megapixels.

WipeMark handles one photo at a time, has no plugins, no API, no mobile app, needs a connection for the background step, and is new.

When to use which

Use WipeMark for a single, full-size cut-out with no account and no credit system; use Erase.bg when you want its plugins, API or higher output cap and are willing to work through its signup process. If you want one clean PNG today with no signup, WipeMark gives you that directly. If you're building background removal into Figma, Photoshop or your own app through an API, Erase.bg's tooling covers that, within whatever free credits apply on the day you check. See our remove.bg alternatives roundup for more options, including Erase.bg's sister product for watermark removal.

How to switch

There is no account to set up on WipeMark's side.

  1. Open WipeMark and drop in a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo up to 25 megapixels.
  2. Wait about 20 seconds for the mask.
  3. Use the Restore or Erase brush to fix any edge.
  4. Pick a transparent, white, black or custom background.
  5. Download as PNG for transparency, or JPG or WebP for a solid background.

If something else in the photo needs removing instead, such as a sign or a stray object, use the eraser. See every comparison on the compare page.

Questions people ask

Is Erase.bg free?

Erase.bg's own pages disagree. Its pricing page FAQ says 'you must sign up before using Erase.bg,' while its homepage FAQ separately says Erase.bg is 'completely free for images processed on our website for personal use.' What both pages agree on is that signing up gives you 3 free credits for high-resolution downloads.

Does Erase.bg require an account?

Its own pages give two different answers, as noted above. If you want to avoid finding out which applies to you, WipeMark needs no account at all for a full-size download.

How much does Erase.bg cost?

Erase.bg's pricing page lists one-time credit packs starting at 10 credits for $3.39, while its FAQ on the same site separately states packs start 'at $5 for 10 credits.' The two figures do not match, so check Erase.bg's current pricing page before buying.

What is the best free alternative to Erase.bg for a full-size cut-out?

WipeMark gives the full-size cut-out, up to 25 megapixels, for free with no account and no credits to track. If you need Erase.bg's Figma or Photoshop plugins, its API or video background removal, WipeMark does not offer those.

Who owns Erase.bg?

Erase.bg's own privacy policy states it is 'managed and operated by Shopsense Retail Technologies Limited,' under the Pixelbin brand family, which also runs WatermarkRemover.io, Upscale.media and Shrink.media.
