How to do it
- 1Photograph your signatureSign on plain white paper with a dark pen, then take the photo in even daylight with no phone shadow across it.
- 2Drop it and check the strokesZoom in on thin tails and dots. Use Restore for any stroke that faded and Erase for paper texture left behind.

What a usable signature image needs
A good signature PNG has three things: dark, unbroken strokes, a fully transparent background with no gray paper left behind, and enough resolution that it does not look pixelated when you place it on a page. Almost all of that is decided when you take the photo, not afterward. The tool can only lift ink that is clearly darker than the paper.
How to photograph your signature
Use plain white printer paper. Lined, colored or textured paper gives the model more to confuse with ink. If the only paper you have is lined, sign in a gap between lines.
Use a dark, medium-weight pen. Black or dark blue felt-tip or gel ink shows up as solid strokes. A light ballpoint skips and fades, and the faint parts are the first to disappear.
Light it evenly. Daylight from a window, or two lamps from either side, works well. The most common problem is the shadow of your own phone falling across the paper. Hold the phone a little higher and to the side.
Hold the phone parallel to the paper. Shooting at an angle makes the signature look squashed. Fill most of the frame with the signature, leaving a small margin around it.
Sign a few times. Pick the cleanest one. Signatures signed slowly for the camera often look stiff, so sign at your normal speed.
Problems you might see
Thin tails vanish. The flick at the end of a signature or the dot over an i is often only a few pixels wide. Zoom in and paint it back with Restore at a small brush size.
Paper texture or a shadow edge remains. Gray patches left in a corner come from uneven lighting. Clear them with Erase. If there are a lot of them, it is faster to reshoot in better light.
The signature looks blue when you wanted black. The cut-out keeps the ink's real color. If a form asks for black, sign again with a black pen rather than trying to recolor it.
It looks too big or too small on the page. WipeMark does not resize, so place the PNG in your PDF or document editor and scale it there. Because the download is full size, shrinking it will stay sharp.
Which format to download
Download PNG. It keeps the transparent background, so the signature sits on top of the form's lines and text without covering them. WebP also keeps transparency, but many PDF and office tools do not accept it. Avoid JPG, which puts a white rectangle behind the ink. That box will cover any printed line or text it overlaps on the document.
Keep your signature file private
A clean image of your signature is something you would not want to leave lying around. Save it somewhere only you can reach, do not post it on public profiles, and delete old copies you no longer use. WipeMark does not keep a copy: the server sees only a reduced version to work out the mask, and it is not stored or logged.
Questions people ask
How do I get a transparent signature from a photo?
Sign on plain white paper, photograph it in even light, and drop the photo into the tool above. After about 20 seconds you get the ink on a transparent background, which you download as a PNG and place on your document.
Why does my signature have a gray box around it?
The paper in your photo was not pure white, usually because of room lighting or a shadow. A plain photo keeps that gray paper. Removing the background turns the paper transparent so only the ink remains.
Is it safe to upload my signature?
WipeMark sends only a reduced copy, at most 1024 pixels, to its server to work out the mask, and nothing is stored or logged. The full-size cut-out is made in your browser. Still, treat the finished PNG like any copy of your signature and keep it out of public folders.
Is a signature image the same as a digital signature?
No. A pasted signature image shows your handwriting, but it does not prove who placed it or whether the document changed afterward. Certificate-based digital signatures, offered by many PDF and e-signing tools, do that. Check what the person asking for your signature actually needs.
Which pen works best for a signature photo?
A black or dark blue felt-tip or gel pen with a medium line. Very fine ballpoint lines are thin and faint in photos, so parts of them may be read as background.
